Fluctuating timber prices mean potential savings

When choosing materials, we think that the most important drivers are suitability within the design context and the cost of the materials.
In terms of cost, there’s an additional consideration that can potentially save you heaps of money. Some hardwoods that are used for flooring, cladding and decking are not plantation grown timbers.
For example, Silvertop Ash is a species of hardwood which is grown sustainably in native forests along the eastern coast of Australia. It is subject to availability-led price fluctuations that can be significant.
I recently procured a reduced price for a client who wanted to use this timber. It’s a year out from needing it onsite, but I sourced a great price that was worth securing. The supplier was open to a small deposit to hold the price, and when needed we’ll have lovely Silvertop Ash cladding onsite. Total savings: approximately $1500 for a 3-bedroom house predominantly clad in Silvertop Ash. With Farside, these little wins add up to big savings of your total construction cost!
