Get on top of Solar

Unless you’ve lived on another planet for the last 30 years, I think you’ll agree that PV solar is an important item to include in your design.
I would argue that solar should be on your “Non-negotiable” list.
But, a decent 3 or 4 kW system will cost between $4000-$6000, so unless you work from home and use candles at night, most of your generated energy will go straight back into the grid (and at 11 c per kW/hr you certainly won’t be retiring on the proceeds!)

We reckon you should bite the bullet and install them anyway. You’ll have a warm fuzzy feeling that will remain long after the cost is forgotten. (There’s a saying in there somewhere!)
You can also be safe in the knowledge that battery storage technology is improving and with that will come a reduction in costs. Before you know it, an off-grid system for a 3 bedroom home will cost as little as $10,000. 
Forgo that imported freestanding spa bath and you’ll be the envy of your friends. And if you’re still hesitant, at least pre-wire so you can easily install a system when you’re ready.
